April Showers Bring May Flowers

April brought us some much needed rain to the San Diego area, which also has helped our local flower farmers to have a bumper crop of stunning spring flowers not to mention those international flower farmers we work with that provide some of our store flower favorites. In the spring, there are many things to celebrate. There’s birthdays, anniversaries, new babies, prom, weddings and more just to name a few. This also includes upcoming special occasions like Mother’s Day on May 11th. For this occasion and all the other special moments, we have put together new, stunning flower arrangements and gifts to enjoy the season and show our love for friends and family. Our floral design team at each of our San Diego locations have been hard at work, doing what they love the most – being creative and coming up with some very artistic and stylized flower arrangements. Highlights include a wide array of tulips, roses, orchids, lilies and carnations as well as tropical flowers, greenery and accents, and unique vase and other containers. This year, we have expanded our offering for Mother’s Day with a luxury collection of unique floral designs, exotic and premium flowers, and a generous size to each of the flower arrangements. One of the favorites among all of our San Diego stores is the extraordinary roses that we start to get in now that warm weather has arrived. These exceptional long-stem roses come in a rainbow array of colors so you can find the color that matches your loved one’s preference. Along with the May flowers comes our special gift to you – sales and promotions on a wide array of the May flower arrangements, bouquets, and centerpieces. This special pricing is a great way [...]

Send a Gift that Leaves a Lasting Impression

There is a reason flowers are such a popular gift – not only are they beautiful but they have a way of making a lasting impression because they represent nature and are so truly unique, especially in terms of showing someone’s love for a special occasion like a birthday, special event, anniversary, new baby or a just because. One of the favorite things we like to do is create flower arrangements that stand out among all the rest so that recipients know that this was not some group of flowers picked up at the supermarket cooler. Instead, it was made by a team of professional floral designers that added their own flair for design, color combinations, and flower varieties not to mention special containers. We are proud to show off our latest collection of Metropolitan Designs that include many contemporary and stunning flower arrangements that will be a real standout as a gift for others or yourself. Many of these also are great choices for centerpieces for events or even an upcoming wedding. Here are a just few of the Metropolitan Designs that we feel have made a lasting impression on many of our customers and their recipients: La Jolla Elegance features white callas, white hydrangea and green cymbidium orchids in a graceful tall glass vase. Prestige is an extraordinary arrangement that features premium roses, tulips, hydrangea, and Oncidium orchids that truly stun.  Our Deluxe Dendrobium orchid display comes in a crystal clear triangular vase that simply overflows with these beauties in shades of purple along with some dramatic accents. Pacific Breeze offers a floral breath of fresh air in this multi-color arrangement. This arrangement blossoms with color and grace that is supplied through the rich beauty of roses, hydrangea, lilies, [...]

Proposal Day First, you may have not heard of Proposal Day, but it is a day intended for making proposals. However, other proposals may be used as well so it could be proposal to be boyfriend and girlfriend or proposal to do something fun. It’s up to you! However, to make it more convincing, you may want to consider picking up a beautiful flower arrangement or spring flower bouquet. This could help seal the deal! Well, some nice jewelry could help too! Plant a Flower Day is March 12th!

One of our favorite celebrations is just around the corner. That’s Plant a Flower Day on March 12th. Being in the flower business, we believe in the importance and value of sustaining our natural resources by continuing to plant so we can always enjoy these beautiful aspects of nature. The day is meant to remind people of the need to keep planting and taking care of flowers by planting flowers in your own garden or by helping out in a community garden. Participating in this day is a great way to help the Earth and give back while also enjoying a fulfilling hobby outdoors in the beautiful San Diego sunshine. We want to make sure that flowers will always be here for us, so that is why we work with flower farmers that are very conscious of what they do in terms of replanting and continually tending to the various flower varieties to make sure they will always be there for future generations to enjoy. If you cannot participate in Plant a Flower Day, you can pick a different day to plant flowers in your garden or even start a garden if you do not yet have one. It’s a great activity for you and your kids to enjoy as well as teaches future generations about the importance of taking care of the Earth. Other great ways to celebrate Plant a Flower Day is to send a flower-themed gift to a loved one. This could be a gardening gift basket with flower seeds included. Or, you could opt for a beautiful display of flowers that illustrates just why we all need to keep planting flowers and taking care of them. At Allen’s Flowers and Plants, we are pleased to provide an [...]

Grandparents Day is September 8th

This Sunday is National Grandparents Day on September 8th.  It is a great day to spend with your grandparents or to let them know in some other special way just how much you love and respect them. This blog post provides some background on how Grandparents Day got started and offers up some great ideas to celebrate this special day of honor. Grandparents Day History National Grandparent’s Day was started by Marian Lucille Herndon McQuade in 1970 and became a national holiday to be celebrated on the first Sunday after Labor by 1978. The purpose of Grandparents Day has always been about loving and honoring grandparents as well as remembering that they are an excellent source of knowledge, information, and experience for grandchildren. This could not be more true in a day and age when grandparents are often more involved than ever with their grandchildren, helping to serve as a care provider when both parents work. Celebrating Grandparents Day There are many great ways to celebrate Grandparents Day. What you choose to do may involve geography and the preference of your grandparents. However, we have provided a list of ideas here to get you started on your celebration: Take them out for lunch or dinner. This is a treat, especially for any grandparents that may be in a care home or do not get a chance to go out often. Spend the day reminiscing over pictures and family history. This is a great time to remember the special times and capture some of those stories that only the older generations remember. Hold a family reunion. Nothing is more touching than being surrounded by such love. Treat them to a show or shopping trip. Having this time together creates another great memory. [...]

Celebrating the Jewish Holy Days

This year, the Jewish holy days of Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, fall on September 5-6 and September 14th, respectively. For the Jewish New Year, Jews celebrate Rosh Hashana starting at sunset on Wednesday, September 4th. Rosh Hashana The Jewish New Year occurs during the first two days of the Hebrew month known as Tishrei and is actually one of four Jewish New Years on the Hebrew calendar. As the start of the High Holy Days, Rosh Hashana, it marks the completion of the creation of the world and has been labeled as the day of judgment. This is a special day where Jews gather in synagogues and participate in extended services. It is during this time that they hear a spiritual call to repent and think about what they have done and what they can do to be more spiritual in their lives. Many delicious foods are also consumed on Rosh Hashanah, including raisin challah, honey cakes, and apples with honey. Yom Kippur Ten days after the Jewish New Year, Yom Kippur follows as the day of atonement where. During those 10 days, Jews have an opportunity to repent of their sins and ensure that they will not be judged among those that should die. This celebration is considered the holiest day of the year. Because it involves atonement, the focus is on intensive prayer and fasting with much time spent at the synagogue during the course of this holy day. Jewish Holy Day Celebrations To commemorate such special days, you may want to include special flower arrangements around your home or send some beautiful bouquets to family and friends also celebrating during this special time. This is a way to let others know that you [...]
