Peonies are Back for a Limited Time!

It’s that time of year again where we have peonies in stock. Since it’s a very short season, it’s a good excuse to order these gorgeous flowers to decorate your home, add to your upcoming nuptials, or include in a flower arrangement that you are gifting to a special someone.= All About Peonies Peonies are long-life perennials that start to produce a magnificent display of single and double blooms in an array of colors – from white to deep red – in late spring and early summer, depending where you live in the U.S. Peonies also have glossy, dark green leaves that shine all season long. Peonies are a favorite in flower arrangements because their cut flowers can last more than a week if they are cut in full bud.  There are six main types of herbaceous peonies: Single: This peony has a single or double row of broad petals that encircle fertile stamens with carpels visible. Japanese: This peony has a single or double row of broad petals that encircle broadened staminodes that may carry pollen along the edges with carpels visible. Anemone: This peony also has a single or double row of broad petals that encircle narrow incurved petal-like staminodes while fertile stamens are absent but carpels visible. Semi-double: This peony has a single or double row of broad petals that encircle further broad petals that are intermingled with stamens. Bomb: This peony has a single row of broad petals that encircle a shorter dense area of narrower petals. Double: This peony has a flower that only consists of many broad petals, including those that are altered stamens and carpels. Our Selection of Peonies We have a number of peony flower arrangements available as well as bulk peonies to [...]

Putting Others First on Random Act of Kindness Day

Did you know that there is actually a special day known as Random Act of Kindness Day? It’s on February 17th each year and it serves as a reminder just what kindness can mean for someone else. Not to mention it feels pretty good to know that you made someone else smile with your words or actions. Whether it is someone you know or a complete stranger, take the time this day to focus on kindness for others. Even smiling at others and saying “hello” as you pass or “good morning” is a great way to start. Of course, picking up the coffee for the person behind or in front of you at the coffee shop isn’t a bad idea either. Then, there are flowers. Yes, we believe flowers are a great way to show kindness. Their sublime beauty and the fact that not many people treat themselves to such a beautiful item is the perfect reason to consider a bouquet or flower arrangement for one or more people on Random Act of Kindness Day. You’ll want to check out the arrival of spring flowers, including tulips, which can add a special touch with many pastel and bold color options. Of course, our collection of orchids and roses are hard to beat! Many of our flower arrangements and bouquets are also on sale right now while supplies last, which provides even more motivation to grab some gorgeous flowers to share with others and brighten their day! Of course, besides flowers, we also have other great gift ideas. There are green plants, succulent plants, garden baskets, balloons, greeting cards, chocolates and gift baskets. Celebrate Veteran’s Day in San Diego at the Parade

Wednesday, November 11th is Veteran’s Day and while there have been many celebrations over this past weekend, San Diego’s biggest event is on the actual holiday. This year’s 2015 Veteran’s Day Parade is scheduled for November 11th on Harbor Drive. Although all veterans will be honored during this event, there will be special recognition for the veterans of World War II. The event is produced by Veterans Week San Diego, which consists of all volunteers, including veterans and citizens, who put together a program each year to thank all veterans for their courage. The parade starts at North Harbor Drive on November 11th at 11:00am and ends at 1:00pm. From Fountain Plaza, located in front of the County Administration Building, the parade then will proceed south past grandstands and Broadway, including the USS Midway. Then it will go one block east to Pacific Highway and end there. The route is about a mile long and will include floats, bands, and, of course, veterans. Viewers should consider traveling to the parade viewing areas by taking the trolley to the Santa Fe Depot or another nearby trolley stop since parking nearby to the parade is extremely limited and accessibility is difficult. This includes any green, orange, or blue line trolley station, which has plenty of parking. In addition to the Veteran’s Day parade, don’t forget that we have a wide array of patriotic flower arrangements, wreaths, and baskets that you can give to a veteran, display at an event, or leave in remembrance at a gravesite. We can also create custom Veteran’s Day flower arrangements at any one of our San Diego flower shops. Order today by phone, in-store, or online through our website.
