Saturday, October 26th is Make a Difference Day

This weekend, a special day is coming up focused on giving back to the community through volunteer work and charitable contributions. Make a Difference Day was created as a national event to promote volunteer work and community assistance. Our blog post this week highlights some local San Diego Make a Difference Day events where you can get involved as well as provides information on our own efforts to be involved in the local San Diego community and help raise money for San Diego organizations. Make a Difference Day Events in San Diego Throughout San Diego, there are formal events for Make a Difference Day that you can participate in: Food Sorting at Feed America San Diego: This is a way to give back by volunteering with an organization that feeds the local San Diego homeless and hungry. Click on the above link to learn more about this event. Volunteering: This link provides information on a wide array of ways you can volunteer within San Diego County to help those in need. Besides these events, you can be proactive and start something within your own part of the San Diego community by helping out neighbors, organizing a clean-up day, or providing some type of assistance on the local level that benefits a San Diego non-profit, church, school or community center. The Helping Hands Program Raises Money for the Local San Diego Community Another way you can help during Make a Difference Day as well as throughout the year is to participate in our Helping Hands Program, which donates part of your purchase to the San Diego organization of your choice. All purchases can qualify for this charitable giving program for non-profit organizations, schools, and churches. Currently, enrolled San Diego organizations include Solana [...]

Celebrate Your Boss on Boss’s Day This October 16th

Even the boss deserves a day to themselves where all staff and employees can show their appreciation for the boss’s hard work, direction and guidance, and inspiration. Motivation goes both ways, and this is the time to help keep your boss motivated through all the challenges and issues that arise throughout the year. We are including a brief explanation of Boss’s Day, but most of this blog post offers up some gift ideas if you are not sure what to get your boss this year. How Boss’s Day Got Started Boss’s Day was the idea of Patricia Bays Haroski. Her goal was to establish a day to recognize the hard work that her boss and all other bosses do. She selected October 16th as the day because this was her father’s birthday. She first petitioned this day in 1958, but it did not become recognized as an official holiday until 1962. Now, it is celebrated in various countries around the world in addition to throughout the United States. San Diego Boss’s Day Gift Ideas Even though you work with your boss on a daily basis, you may still be struggling with what might be the most appropriate gift. If you have been tasked with gift buying by your team or department or you are doing this on your own, we’ve put together some ideas from our online gift store: Seasonal fresh fruit baskets with locally sourced San Diego fruit for that boss that is also a health nut or is working on eating better; Junk food and candy gift baskets for that boss that has a sweet tooth; and Gourmet food baskets with savory treats like cheese, crackers, chips, etc. for the boss that enjoys good food. If you have other [...]

Homecoming Hits San Diego! Time for Corsages and Boutonnieres

Now that school has been underway for a few weeks, it’s time for that long-standing tradition of the Homecoming football game and dance. This is the time of year where new, returning, and past students come together to socialize and celebrate their school spirit. With it comes one of the biggest dances of the year next to Prom at the end of the school year. Girls don their finest dresses and the boys rent a tuxedo for a fun night out. Now that it’s time to order homecoming corsages and homecoming boutonnieres, we wanted to provide a few highlights of what our San Diego flower shops can create as well as offer some hints on how to pick the right corsage and boutonniere. Things to Think about When Picking a Corsage or Boutonniere Whether you are buying one or both, there are some things to think about in order to get the perfect homecoming corsage or homecoming boutonniere: What color is your dress?  It should coordinate with your dress but not necessarily be the same color of it could get blend in too much, especially if it is pinned on your dress and not worn as a wrist corsage. What type of dress do you have? If you have a strapless dress, it is better to opt for a wrist corsage or a nosegay corsage (a small bouquet). What is the individual style of you and your date? Think about if you like traditional flowers or you may enjoy something alternative that represents fall like the use of berries, wheat, or raffia. Maybe you even like a little bling like rhinestones or gold tipped leaves. What is your budget? While there are a lot of options to suit every budget, you [...]
